Resource Round-Up: Closet Inspiration

Hi friends!  I’m headed home today from a fabulous road trip through California full of chasing light with beautiful + creative souls, too many french fries, just enough tequila and a simplified approach to living.  I especially love the pared down style of living out of a suitcase.  Fewer choices, the re-wearing of favorites, the importance of layering + the perfect statement accessory.

Fresh off this trip AND in the midst of a bathroom remodel which made me pack up my entire closet, I’m looking forward to a closet + wardrobe re-do in my near future.  I need to majorly edit the chaos that is my wardrobe, pare back the (so many) pieces I haven’t worn in years and update some of the classics which are past their prime.  My goal is to reduce my wardrobe by half, infusing it with cherished favorites that I am excited to wear.  I know it will take a minute to reduce the clutter + then find those few fun pieces to make my wardrobe more me.   I’m starting with some organization inspiration to get me excited about Marie Kondo’ing the s*&! out of my closet.

I’m a fairly organized closet keeper by nature.  I organize my closet by item type (shirts together, dresses together, etc.) and then by color.  So all black blazers together, then navy, then grey.  I love color and I love organization – so this makes me smile when I open the doors.  A few of my favorite closet staples:  these hangers;  these organizing trays for jewelry;  these boxes for accessories (scarves, hats, socks.)  My past professional life lead to an obsession with handbags, workbags and small leather goods.  I’m eyeing these hooks for some handbag help and these trays to organize all the wallets and small items I have collected over the years.

Inspired by suitcase living, I’m also considering adding an industrial garment rack to my bedroom.  I love the idea of styling + choosing my clothes a few days at a time and having them ready to go…just like I do when I’m packing for a trip.  I think the visual of looking at them as art in my room, would also force me to weave the more beautiful pieces into my daily dressing.  I’m excited to start this refresh and put a bit more fun + art into my daily routine.
